Today there are going to be offerings from the William Farnum estate. The noted actor of stage and film acquired and earned a collection of pins badges and medals for himself and from his family over the years. While there are images of all the pieces, you will only be bidding/purchasing the identified piece in each listing. This is an NAAO, national association of amateur oarsmen(precursor to the US Rowing Club) medal for the Friends Academy. This medal is identified as 1908 and Springfield MASS. It is composed of 3 pieces with a friends academy lapel pin on top of a blue ribbon suspending a medal from a double loop. A Farnum family tradition to be an oarsmen according to history and lore, this is a family piece passed down over the years. It measures approximately 3.25" x 1.5". The clasp is only on the friends academy pin but is original and in good working condition.See photos to answer most questions and make an informed decision before making a bid or offer and ask what you need and I will try to provide answers about the product. In 1982, the United States Rowing Association was formed by the merger of the National Association of Amateur Oarsmen, founded in 1872, and the National Women's Rowing Association, established in the early 1960s. In 1985, the organization moved from Philadelphia to Indianapolis, home of several other Olympic sport governing bodies. In 1994, Indianapolis became the only U.S. city to host a world rowing championship. In 2006, USRowing moved its corporate headquarters to Princeton, N.J., home of the USRowing National Team Training Center.
Friends Academy was founded in 1810 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) from New Bedford,
Dartmouth, and the surrounding area.
It incorporated in 1812.
The campus was first located on County Street in New Bedford. It later moved to a building on Morgan Street.
