    Description

    1200 dpi scans:
Extremely rare handwritten postcard (last of 3 that I have owned) from Rob Morris (founder of Eastern Star) writing from London England to his son Rob Morris Jr in Franklin Kentucky written and postmarked on July 29, 1878.  Addressed to:
    Rob Morris Jr.
    Franklin, Kentucky USA
    Postcard reads:
    London Eng 29 July, 78
Safely arrived on Saturday.  Spent yesterday in the family of Hyde Pullen one of E.D. Cookes old friend.
Am well.  I have given a sad memory today to the dear girl who left us this morning a year ago.
Best love to the 4 of you.
    RM
Written entirely in his own hand....Interesting communication from Rob Morris' last trip abroad.  The note shows the emotions a father has for his daughter Ella (Rob Jr.'s sister) who died at age 20 exactly one year earlier on July 29, 1877.  In a relatively rare display, Rob Morris' salutation includes the word 'love'.
This note was written on a Monday July 29, 1878 indicating Rob Morris arrived in London 2 days earlier on Saturday July 27, 1878.  Rob Morris spent approximately 5 weeks in England on his last known trip abroad.
Weathered and yellow with age with foreign piece of paper stuck to corner per scan.  Some soiling and spotting.  Some pencil notations with nice London and New York cancellations.
    Measures roughly 4 5/8 inches by 3 1/3 inches.
